P0330: Knock Sensor 2 Circuit Malfunction (Bank 2)
Severity: Medium Avoid hard acceleration and heavy engine loads until diagnosed. If there is loud knocking, an oil-pressure warning, or overheating, stop the engine and arrange inspection rather than continuing to drive.
What does P0330 mean?
The knock sensor 2 circuit on bank 2 has a malfunction. The engine computer may use conservative ignition timing because it cannot reliably monitor knock from that sensor.
Generic OBD-II definition: Knock Sensor 2 Circuit Malfunction (Bank 2). Confirm applicability in your vehicle service information.
Common causes
- Failed bank 2 knock sensor
- Open or shorted sensor harness
- Corroded sensor connection
Symptoms
- Check engine light
- Hesitation or reduced power
- Possible pinging or unusual engine noise
Diagnostic focus
Sensor 2 location varies; it is not always visible on the outside of the block. Inspect accessible wiring before authorizing intake-manifold removal just to reach the sensor.
Can I keep driving with P0330?
Severity: Medium Avoid hard acceleration and heavy engine loads until diagnosed. If there is loud knocking, an oil-pressure warning, or overheating, stop the engine and arrange inspection rather than continuing to drive.
If the check engine light is flashing or the car runs badly, stop driving and have it checked.
Typical fixes
- Identify knock sensor 2 using the engine diagram
- Inspect the harness and terminal condition
- Test the sensor circuit to the manufacturer specification
