P0326: Knock Sensor 1 Circuit Range/Performance (Bank 1)
Severity: Medium Avoid hard acceleration and heavy engine loads until diagnosed. If there is loud knocking, an oil-pressure warning, or overheating, stop the engine and arrange inspection rather than continuing to drive.
What does P0326 mean?
The bank 1 knock sensor 1 signal is outside the expected behavior range. The computer may be seeing genuine detonation, abnormal engine vibration, or an inaccurate sensor signal.
Generic OBD-II definition: Knock Sensor 1 Circuit Range/Performance (Bank 1). Confirm applicability in your vehicle service information.
Common causes
- Incorrect fuel octane or real engine noise
- Loose or incorrectly torqued knock sensor
- Sensor damage, moisture, or wiring fault
Symptoms
- Check engine light
- Hesitation or reduced power
- Possible pinging or unusual engine noise
Diagnostic focus
A knock sensor is a vibration detector, so a real mechanical noise can be the reason for the code. Fix a verified noise or fuel problem before treating it only as an electrical failure.
Can I keep driving with P0326?
Severity: Medium Avoid hard acceleration and heavy engine loads until diagnosed. If there is loud knocking, an oil-pressure warning, or overheating, stop the engine and arrange inspection rather than continuing to drive.
If the check engine light is flashing or the car runs badly, stop driving and have it checked.
Typical fixes
- Check required fuel grade and investigate audible mechanical noise
- Inspect sensor mounting and connector condition
- Test the knock signal to the engine-specific procedure
