P0328: Knock Sensor 1 Circuit High Input (Bank 1)
Severity: Medium Avoid hard acceleration and heavy engine loads until diagnosed. If there is loud knocking, an oil-pressure warning, or overheating, stop the engine and arrange inspection rather than continuing to drive.
What does P0328 mean?
The bank 1 knock sensor 1 signal is above its expected limit. The cause can be wiring held high, electrical interference, a sensor problem, or genuine abnormal engine vibration.
Generic OBD-II definition: Knock Sensor 1 Circuit High Input (Bank 1). Confirm applicability in your vehicle service information.
Common causes
- Signal shorted to voltage or interference
- Failed or loose knock sensor
- Wrong fuel octane or mechanical knocking
Symptoms
- Check engine light
- Hesitation or reduced power
- Possible pinging or unusual engine noise
Diagnostic focus
High input does not prove the engine is detonating, but loud knocking must not be ignored. Separate a wiring-held-high signal from real vibration before replacing parts.
Can I keep driving with P0328?
Severity: Medium Avoid hard acceleration and heavy engine loads until diagnosed. If there is loud knocking, an oil-pressure warning, or overheating, stop the engine and arrange inspection rather than continuing to drive.
If the check engine light is flashing or the car runs badly, stop driving and have it checked.
Typical fixes
- Inspect wiring routing and unwanted voltage
- Check fuel grade and any audible knock
- Verify the sensor mounting and signal to specification
