P0223: Throttle/Pedal Position Sensor/Switch B Circuit High Input
Severity: High Unreliable throttle response can be dangerous. Do not continue driving with surging, stalling, or reduced acceleration that makes traffic unsafe; arrange recovery instead. Do not force an electronic throttle plate.
What does P0223 mean?
The B position-sensor circuit reports a voltage above its permitted range. The computer may enter reduced-power mode because redundant throttle or pedal inputs no longer provide trustworthy position information.
Generic OBD-II definition: Throttle/Pedal Position Sensor/Switch B Circuit High Input. Confirm applicability in your vehicle service information.
Common causes
- B signal shorted to a supply
- Open return or connector problem
- Internal position-sensor failure
Symptoms
- Reduced engine power
- Erratic pedal response
- Check engine light
Diagnostic focus
If this appears alongside P2135, verify both position signals and their shared connections. A high B signal can produce a correlation fault without a separate motor failure.
Can I keep driving with P0223?
Severity: High Unreliable throttle response can be dangerous. Do not continue driving with surging, stalling, or reduced acceleration that makes traffic unsafe; arrange recovery instead. Do not force an electronic throttle plate.
If the check engine light is flashing or the car runs badly, stop driving and have it checked.
Typical fixes
- Check B signal, return, and reference to the wiring diagram
- Inspect throttle/pedal connectors for corrosion
- Replace only the assembly shown faulty by the tests
