P2112: Throttle Actuator Control System Stuck Closed

Severity: High Unreliable throttle response can be dangerous. Do not continue driving with surging, stalling, or reduced acceleration that makes traffic unsafe; arrange recovery instead. Do not force an electronic throttle plate.

What does P2112 mean?

The electronic throttle remains closed or fails to open as commanded. The driver may press the pedal without obtaining safe acceleration because the actuator, plate, or feedback system is not working properly.

Generic OBD-II definition: Throttle Actuator Control System Stuck Closed. Confirm applicability in your vehicle service information.

Common causes

  • Carbon or mechanical binding
  • Failed throttle motor
  • Faulty throttle feedback
  • Corroded connector or damaged control wiring

Symptoms

  • Little or no acceleration
  • Poor performance
  • Possible no-start condition

Diagnostic focus

A relearn is not a substitute for checking a mechanically stuck plate or failed motor. Avoid repeated accelerator input in traffic to try to make it release.

Can I keep driving with P2112?

Severity: High Unreliable throttle response can be dangerous. Do not continue driving with surging, stalling, or reduced acceleration that makes traffic unsafe; arrange recovery instead. Do not force an electronic throttle plate.

If the check engine light is flashing or the car runs badly, stop driving and have it checked.

Typical fixes

  • Inspect the intake/throttle assembly with power safely isolated
  • Verify motor control and position feedback
  • Follow required relearn only after the underlying fault is repaired
