P0445: Evaporative Emission System Purge Control Valve Circuit Shorted
Severity: Low With normal running and no fuel smell or leakage, arrange an emissions-system check. If you smell strong fuel vapor or see a leak, stop safely and have it inspected; keep ignition sources away.
What does P0445 mean?
The EVAP purge-valve circuit is shorted. Damaged insulation or an internally shorted winding can overload the circuit or prevent the computer from controlling purge correctly.
Generic OBD-II definition: Evaporative Emission System Purge Control Valve Circuit Shorted. Confirm applicability in your vehicle service information.
Common causes
- Pinched or bare purge wiring
- Shorted purge-solenoid winding
- Damaged connector terminals
Symptoms
- Steady check engine light
- Often no noticeable driving change
- EVAP readiness may not complete
Diagnostic focus
Do not fit a larger fuse or repeatedly replace the original without locating the short. A shared power feed may also affect other components.
