P0154: O2 Sensor Circuit No Activity Detected (Bank 2 Sensor 1)
Severity: Medium With a steady light and normal running, arrange diagnosis soon. Stop for a flashing light, severe misfire, overheating, or a glowing catalyst; do not assume those symptoms are only a sensor fault.
What does P0154 mean?
The bank 2 upstream oxygen input shows no expected activity. Because this sensor normally participates in fuel correction, a fixed reading can interfere with mixture control or make the computer use fallback values.
Generic OBD-II definition: O2 Sensor Circuit No Activity Detected (Bank 2 Sensor 1). Confirm applicability in your vehicle service information.
Common causes
- Dead or contaminated sensor
- Open or shorted signal circuit
- Loose terminals or water in the connector
- Exhaust leak or heater fault
Symptoms
- Rough idle or stalling
- Reduced economy
- Check engine light and possible mixture codes
Diagnostic focus
No activity is different from merely slow response. Determine whether the signal is fixed at a circuit bias voltage, held low/high by wiring, or unable to respond because the sensor is cold.
Can I keep driving with P0154?
Severity: Medium With a steady light and normal running, arrange diagnosis soon. Stop for a flashing light, severe misfire, overheating, or a glowing catalyst; do not assume those symptoms are only a sensor fault.
If the check engine light is flashing or the car runs badly, stop driving and have it checked.
Typical fixes
- Check sensor warm-up and heater operation
- Inspect the bank 2 upstream signal wiring
- Use a controlled response test to separate sensor failure from a circuit fault
