P0533: A/C Refrigerant Pressure Sensor A Circuit High Input
Severity: Low Arrange A/C diagnosis; do not open pressurized refrigerant lines. If the engine overheats or there is smoke, stop safely rather than continuing to use the A/C.
What does P0533 mean?
The A/C pressure feedback voltage is above the expected range. The system may shut off the compressor because actual pressure is high or because wiring or sensor trouble falsely indicates high pressure.
Generic OBD-II definition: A/C Refrigerant Pressure Sensor A Circuit High Input. Confirm applicability in your vehicle service information.
Common causes
- Signal shorted to voltage or open return
- Failed pressure sensor
- Excess refrigerant pressure from a cooling or charge problem
Symptoms
- Loss of cooling
- Compressor shutoff
- Erratic A/C operation
Diagnostic focus
High refrigerant pressure can be hazardous. Do not add refrigerant or defeat compressor protection; confirm the circuit and cooling conditions before opening the system.
Can I keep driving with P0533?
Severity: Low Arrange A/C diagnosis; do not open pressurized refrigerant lines. If the engine overheats or there is smoke, stop safely rather than continuing to use the A/C.
If the check engine light is flashing or the car runs badly, stop driving and have it checked.
Typical fixes
- Inspect sensor signal and return circuits
- Check condenser airflow and fan operation where specified
- Have system pressure and charge checked by an A/C technician
