P0448: Evaporative Emission System Vent Valve/Solenoid Circuit Shorted
Severity: Low With normal running and no fuel smell or leakage, arrange an emissions-system check. If you smell strong fuel vapor or see a leak, stop safely and have it inspected; keep ignition sources away.
What does P0448 mean?
A short is detected in the EVAP vent-valve control circuit. This can prevent correct vent operation and keep the system from completing its pressure/leak monitor.
Generic OBD-II definition: Evaporative Emission System Vent Valve/Solenoid Circuit Shorted. Confirm applicability in your vehicle service information.
Common causes
- Shorted vent winding
- Harness chafed to power or ground
- Damaged canister-area connector
Symptoms
- Steady check engine light
- Often no noticeable driving change
- EVAP readiness may not complete
Diagnostic focus
A blocked vent filter and an electrical short are not identical problems. Check both the circuit evidence and any filling symptoms instead of treating this as a gas-cap fault.
Can I keep driving with P0448?
Severity: Low With normal running and no fuel smell or leakage, arrange an emissions-system check. If you smell strong fuel vapor or see a leak, stop safely and have it inspected; keep ignition sources away.
If the check engine light is flashing or the car runs badly, stop driving and have it checked.
Typical fixes
- Inspect the vent harness and connector for moisture and abrasion
- Check for a circuit short with components safely isolated
- Replace only the valve or wiring shown faulty
