P0337: Crankshaft Position Sensor A Circuit Low Input

Severity: High A position-signal fault can cause stalling or failure to restart. Avoid normal use until diagnosed; arrange towing if the engine stalls, runs severely rough, or will not start reliably.

What does P0337 mean?

The computer sees too little voltage from crankshaft sensor A. Without reliable crank position it may not be able to synchronize ignition and injection, causing a no-start or unexpected stall.

Generic OBD-II definition: Crankshaft Position Sensor A Circuit Low Input. Confirm applicability in your vehicle service information.

Common causes

  • Crank signal shorted to ground
  • Failed CKP sensor
  • Lost supply or corroded sensor connection

Symptoms

  • No start
  • Stalling or hesitation
  • No RPM indicated while cranking

Diagnostic focus

Hall-effect and magnetic crank sensors use different tests. Use the engine wiring information; a universal voltage or resistance test can misdiagnose one type.

Can I keep driving with P0337?

Severity: High A position-signal fault can cause stalling or failure to restart. Avoid normal use until diagnosed; arrange towing if the engine stalls, runs severely rough, or will not start reliably.

If the check engine light is flashing or the car runs badly, stop driving and have it checked.

Typical fixes

  • Check cranking RPM with a capable scan tool
  • Inspect the CKP connector for fluid or corrosion
  • Test supply, return, and signal using the correct sensor type
