P0132: O2 Sensor Circuit High Voltage (Bank 1 Sensor 1)
Severity: Medium With a steady light and normal running, arrange diagnosis soon. Stop for a flashing light, severe misfire, overheating, or a glowing catalyst; do not assume those symptoms are only a sensor fault.
What does P0132 mean?
The upstream oxygen-sensor circuit on bank 1 reports an unusually high voltage. It may be sensing a real rich exhaust condition, but a signal short or an internal sensor fault can also hold the reading high.
Generic OBD-II definition: O2 Sensor Circuit High Voltage (Bank 1 Sensor 1). Confirm applicability in your vehicle service information.
Common causes
- Signal shorted to voltage or heater wiring
- Faulty oxygen sensor
- Genuinely rich fueling
Symptoms
- Steady check engine light
- Possible decrease in fuel economy
- May drive normally
Diagnostic focus
A rich-running engine and a signal wire touching heater power require different repairs. Look for P0172 and fuel-delivery clues before automatically replacing the oxygen sensor.
Can I keep driving with P0132?
Severity: Medium With a steady light and normal running, arrange diagnosis soon. Stop for a flashing light, severe misfire, overheating, or a glowing catalyst; do not assume those symptoms are only a sensor fault.
If the check engine light is flashing or the car runs badly, stop driving and have it checked.
Typical fixes
- Inspect signal wiring near the heater wires
- Compare fuel trims with oxygen-sensor data
- Test whether the high signal follows a real mixture change
