P0124: Throttle/Pedal Position Sensor/Switch A Circuit Intermittent

Severity: High Unreliable throttle response can be dangerous. Do not continue driving with surging, stalling, or reduced acceleration that makes traffic unsafe; arrange recovery instead. Do not force an electronic throttle plate.

What does P0124 mean?

The A position input drops out or glitches as the throttle or pedal moves. A worn sensor track or loose terminal can interrupt the signal only at certain positions.

Generic OBD-II definition: Throttle/Pedal Position Sensor/Switch A Circuit Intermittent. Confirm applicability in your vehicle service information.

Common causes

  • Intermittent position sensor
  • Chafed or loose A-circuit wiring
  • Binding throttle mechanism or incorrect sensor adjustment

Symptoms

  • Hesitation at a particular pedal position
  • Surging or intermittent stall
  • Reduced-power mode

Diagnostic focus

A slow scan-tool refresh may miss a brief dropout. A technician may need a scope or graphing meter to catch a worn track; do not force an electronic throttle plate during testing.
