P0114: Intake Air Temperature Sensor 1 Circuit Intermittent

Severity: Medium Drive gently and get it diagnosed soon.

What does P0114 mean?

The intake-temperature signal cuts in and out or changes abruptly. Some engines integrate the IAT sensor into the MAF assembly, so the physical connector to inspect may serve both measurements.

Generic OBD-II definition: Intake Air Temperature Sensor 1 Circuit Intermittent. Confirm applicability in your vehicle service information.

Common causes

  • Loose IAT or combined MAF/IAT connector
  • Broken or chafed sensor wiring
  • Sensor failing intermittently

Symptoms

  • Intermittent check engine light
  • Possible hesitation
  • Sometimes normal driving between faults

Diagnostic focus

A temperature that jumps instantly by a large amount without an airflow or heat change usually warrants an electrical check. Identify whether the sensor is separate or part of the MAF before ordering parts.

Can I keep driving with P0114?

Severity: Medium Drive gently and get it diagnosed soon.

If the check engine light is flashing or the car runs badly, stop driving and have it checked.

Typical fixes

  • Graph IAT while inspecting the connector and harness
  • Check for damaged intake tubing and connector strain
  • Repair intermittent wiring or replace the sensor proven faulty
